Privacy Policy
Last updated September 1, 2026
The short version: NPAir doesn't have an account system, doesn't run a server, and doesn't use analytics or any third-party SDKs. It talks to your Sonos speakers directly over your local Wi-Fi network, and everything it saves stays on your Mac unless you personally choose to turn on iCloud sync for Scenes.
This policy covers the NPAir app for macOS, available on the Mac App Store. It has no dependencies on any third-party service, analytics, or advertising SDK — NPAir is built entirely on Apple's own frameworks.
Local network access
NPAir requests local network access to discover and control Sonos speakers using the same protocols the official Sonos app uses: SSDP multicast discovery and UPnP (SOAP over HTTP). This is used to find speakers on your Wi-Fi, read their grouping and playback state, and send playback, volume, and EQ commands. All of this traffic stays on your local network between your Mac and your speakers; it never goes anywhere else.
No Sonos account or sign-in is required or used. NPAir has no account system of its own, either.
Microphone (Intercom)
The optional Intercom feature requests microphone access to record a short voice clip. That recording is saved to a temporary file on your Mac and streamed to the target speaker(s) over a local HTTP server that only listens on your own Wi-Fi network. The recording is never uploaded anywhere, and NPAir doesn't request microphone access unless and until you use Intercom.
Scenes & settings storage
Scenes, preferences, and app settings are saved locally on your Mac. NPAir Pro includes an optional "iCloud Synchronization" toggle (off by default, in Settings) that, once you turn it on, syncs your saved Scenes across your own Apple devices using your personal iCloud account. That sync happens through Apple's iCloud key-value store under your Apple ID; NPDesigned has no access to that data, and Apple's own privacy policy governs it. You can turn this off at any time in NPAir's settings.
Siri & Shortcuts
NPAir integrates with Siri and the Shortcuts app via Apple's AppIntents framework, so you can trigger Scenes or playback by voice or automation. Siri requests are handled by Apple per Apple's own Siri & Dictation privacy terms; NPAir only receives the resulting command (for example, which Scene to apply) locally on your Mac.
Global keyboard shortcuts
If you set up global hotkeys, NPAir listens for that specific key combination system-wide using macOS's standard event monitoring APIs so it can respond even when it isn't the active app. This is handled entirely on your Mac and isn't recorded, logged, or sent anywhere.
Pro purchases
NPAir Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store and StoreKit. NPAir never sees or stores your payment details, name, or billing address; it only receives confirmation of your entitlement from Apple. See Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase information.
Analytics & third parties
NPAir does not use analytics, tracking, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind, and has no third-party code dependencies at all. Nothing about your usage, your household, or your Sonos system is collected or shared with us or with anyone else.
Children's privacy
NPAir does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it doesn't collect information at all.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of NPAir changes how it handles data, we'll update this page and adjust the "Last updated" date above before that change ships.
